"Sick" 930 Turbo - Intake Manifold Backfire

Pelican Tech Lords,

The #6 Piston has a Back fire coming out of the intake manifold. Loud Poping noice. I believe it is a Stuck valve.

The oil jets that lubricate the Rocker arm was clogged - I unclogged it, started the motor with the valve covers off - It cleared the line - Oil shot out like a gusher.

I was hoping it would lubricate the Valve and it would free up. I still is poping like popcorn.

Any advice?

I appreciate this forum - Have had the best results - Thank you again!

are both rockers still in place? how about sufficient valve clearance? do a compression test on #6.

Rocker arms are in place - The adjustment is to .0004

I was told to force open the valve - This should free it up - bang it with a rubber mallet

#6 Cylinder - compression check - on the Sunday Garage "To Do List"

What is your advise?

if a valve is bent, the rocker clearance would increase quite a bit. if it's stuck in the guide, the clearance would increase also. yours is still at .004, so that doesn't compute to an open valve, unless you closed up the clearance to .004 after the problem started.

John,

Correct after the problem arised - the valve adjustment was redone to the #6 cylinder.

What would you suggest to eliminate the horrific noice and get the Cylinder operating propery? Again - It is back firing through the intake manifold - Poping like a Mother Fu$$er - I belived the problem was due to the clogged oil jet - Prior to the this It ran great!

David - You are correct .004 - Type O - You are also correct about the 930's

John,

I have a Black "Leather" dash for your 77 - I also have a Vinyl Dash that is at the Uphostery shop, will be ready soon.

Thank You John - I wish I could bring Seattle closer to my garage!

how much clearance did you have to take up on #6? 1/8" or something large like that? cam lobes and rocker faces generally just get galled if the oiler is not working, but shouldn't cause your problem. did you over-rev and bend a valve?
