Need quick a/c answer!
'82SC - York Compressor
Which side is the high pressure side? The top or the bottom. And, just to make sure my lines are connected correctly, the deck lid line from the condenser to the compressor.... which side of the compressor does that line connect to? (the top or bottom.. or high/low) Thanks... TonyG |
The high pressure hose connection is the smaller on of the two. The hose to the lid condenser -- the smaller of the two hoses at the compressor -- is connected there. The larger connection is the suction side -- the larger hose connects there.
If you are talking about the R-12 service ports, they are both the same size. The his pressure side is marked "D" for 'discharge'. The other one is "S" for 'suction'. |
I have a Sanden compressor so I can't say which is high or low related to top or bottm on the York. I can tell you that the high side is the smaller diameter hose that goes to the first condenser, usally the deck lid condenser unless your car has been modified. The low side larger hose that comes up from the very back of the passenger side of the engine compartment.

THe lower pressure port is the lower on the compressor with the thicker hose coming from it. THe size of the hose should follow this as mentioned above.

Bad news... while charging the a/c, the front of the car had R134 misting out everywhere.... No wonder the car's a/c didn't work when I got it.. grrrrrr I can't tell which hose it is... but it's not the front condenser, and it's not the lines in the drivers front wheel well. The leak is somewhere between the front condenser and the front wheel well.. damn... But thanks for all the quick replies.... TonyG |

How did it ever hold vacuum? Did you swap out the receiver/drier and pump down before trying to charge? Jim |
The problem turned out to be the high pressure short line from the dryer to the front condenser.
There were two areas where the hose was obviously rubbing against something sharp over a period of time. It held vacuum. But once it built up pressure, one of the cuts must have "gave way"... resulting in a "fog show" coming out of the front fender. I've removed the high pressure line.... and am waiting for the new line. Hopefully, all will go well after the new line is installed. And no, I did not swap out the receiver dryer. The system was closed, and I live in a very dry area, and I have records of it being changed a 3 years ago.... I'll see if it work well. If not, I'll start upgrading stuff.. which is what I plan to do anyway... I figure that this is a starting point. Let's see how well the factory setup works. Then I'll go on from there to improve as necessary. TonyG |
