87 Targa Outer CV Joint Question on Boot Replacement
My outer CV Boot has torn and I would like to know how to remove the driveshaft to replace this. The Hayes manual states that you just need to remove the cv bolts on the inner joint and the driveshaft can be lifted out. However, upon doing so, I am unable to get the driveshaft out of the outer joint.
It appears the metal dustcap that is attached to the boot is holding the shaft in. Does this just need to be pried off? Any Ideas on the best way fto do this? Or do I have to remove the driveshaft nut on the outside? Given the Hayes manual is not real specific and I do not wish to indiscriminately bang and pry on things, I would appreciate anyones help on this. Thank you customera1@earthlink.net |
bang and pry on the edge of the CV joint - while roatating it, pulling on it and cursing.
search on this topic - there are dozens of posts, maybe hundreds |
Yes, do a search, but you are correct, at least on my '88, you remove the nut on the outside (an air wrench comes in handy). Then you can slide the half axle out. Hope this helps...
