Are Kumho ECSTA Supra 712 too good to be true at $275 for 4?

I was noticing I can get four of these tires (2x 205 55 16, and 2x 225 50 16) shipped to my door for under $300. Is this too good to be true? I just got four Dunlop SP Sport 9000(?) put on an 88 Targa and it cost around ~$750. Are the Dulops that far superior to these Kumho's? After reading the reviews, they seem to be pretty good. I am thinking of getting them put on just to see if the price difference is worth it for the Dunlops or not.

If you're just grinding them up on the track, they are the way to go, IMO. If you want milege, performance, good ride and handling all in one tire, you get what you pay for. Again, IMHO.

They are a good tire at a great price. Lots of bang for the buck, however better tires are available at a higher price (S03s). I don't think the Dunlops are better but that's JMHO.

Best regards,
Gerry

I ran these tires on my old 944 turbo. Great bang for the buck in my opinion. I suppose it depends on the type and amount of driving you do. When I had the 944 I drove it on the weekends and around town....wasn't doing any serious "high performance driving."

I have them on the 87 targa. Great tires. Quiet, sticky, no complaints at all. I also dont track the car.
If they wear out in a few years..... 10k miles so what , they are inexpensive.

I'm still mixed about the Dunlops. They ride VERY nice, and are quiet. I have noticed though that they give ZERO warning before they break loose and they seem to squirm a bit. For a weekend driver that sees no track time though, they are a good tire. The Kumho's would be for a weekend driver also. Both of these cars see less than 5000 easy miles per year, so tread life isn't that big of an issue.

I have a set on my car and I've enjoyed them (mostly street with some AX/DE). They aren't the stickiest tires around, but since I am just starting out driving AX/DE I don't think it is a huge deal.

My opinion exactly. I've got them on my summer, daily driver ('78 SC) and have been well satisfied. Next set will be either the Kumho's again or the Yok. ES 100's.

Kumhos are a GOOD tire for the money. If you're used to having GREAT tires and go with the Kumhos, explore their (lower) limits in a safe enironment. I had a frightening moment in the mountains when driving near the limit of adhesion. The problem was that the limit was lower than what I was expecting!

I'm on my second set on my daily driver (first set went for 25K miles) and I have them on my 911. No complaints and all of the reviews I've read call them the best bang for the tire-buck out there. I tend to agree.

You can not beat the price of these tires. I have them on my saab. I have had 4 different types of tires on that car and these are the best for everyday driving in my mind. Hell yes there are better tires out there, but the price is great for what you get.

How about the Kumho MX? They seems to be a bit stickier than the 712 and cost a little more.

Keep in mind that tires are the single biggest factor influencing you cars handling. I'm all for saving money if you can, but this is a Porsche 911, not a minivan. I just can't believe your not giving up some of the performance of your 911 riding on a $65 tire.

I used to work for a Kumho distributor. We've had a bit of problem with tires bubbling up. Our roads aren't the greatest, but I'll say what others have said...you do get what you pay for.

I'll add to the compliments on these tires. I've put 10k miles on mine mostly street driving and now 4 DE's and I'm amazed at how well they've held up and performed. Incredible value for a tire imho. Street adhesion in dry and wet is good to great but I'm not testing the limits of my car on the street so I can't make a comment about that but on the track they have good adhesion and progressive loss of traction at the limits--they squeel like pigs before they let go so you know its coming.

You should try the Falken Azenis Sport RS then, it will make you a believer. Unfortunately, they are not available in a wide array of sizes, although rumors of the factory expanding their offering abound.

The 712s are a good tire at a great price. I have a set on my wrx. It is about time for new tires on that car. I have 26k mile on them with about a doz autocrosses. The sidewall is not as stiff as some and they require a bit higher psi. I may go for the mx this time or perhaps the falken azenis.
