Not Mulholland.

EVENT POSTPONED, NOT ENOUGH INTEREST

Our first run was good and bad. Planning was deficient (sorry) but good time had by most. Want to try this again until I get it right, since I'm 'chairing' the 914club's 2005 West Coast Classic, and the venue includes a couple of twisty road tours.

So will try it again this Sunday. Starting from the scenic :D Flying 'J' truck stop in Frazier Park at 8:00am, we'll go via Lockwood Valley and Ojai to Elkins Ranch golf course for brunch.

The route is a combo of Mulholland like twisties, big sweepers, and some high speed stuff. Not too patrolled, but as said before, this ain't a race.

Print the map if you're coming.

bump...

Howard Agency 08-17-2004 11:19 AM

Thanks for the bumps, guys, but either run is fine with me. Let's see how many want to go where.

Not that we all can't go in different directions to emulate the first event
:)

Howard's picked a nice route- some great driving and views. As with any great roads, watch out for the motorcycles; some are crazy (like some P car pilots, i'm sure!)

btw- the buffet b-fast at the flying j sucks! go for toast/ coffee/ fruit only

You are too kind about Flying J's buffet. But the coffee's good and they refill your thermos cup for 59 cents. The plan was to go to Elkins Ranch (Fillmore) for brunch. That is good.

Dave...why did you have to post that link. WHY WHY WHY!?!?!

Rally school in October at Thunderhill. Damn.

OK...so a skid plate under the engine. Can I get remote resivior shocks so I can drop the car down for road events, then raise it up for rally?

porcupine911 08-18-2004 03:03 PM

sure... here you go: http://www.penskeshocks.com/8760.htm

nostatic 08-18-2004 03:11 PM

dammit...make it stop.

Anyone ever run a 914 as a rally car? Or a baja bug seems like it might be a good choice. They have an "under $4K" class in CRS.

TRE Cup 08-18-2004 04:14 PM

you have not lived till you've taken a 911 or 914 with ltd slip sideways over a dirt road! talk about silly giggling

nostatic 08-18-2004 04:17 PM

um...Dave...my 79 has LSD. You're not making this any easier.

So how little ground clearance can you get away with on a typical course? I used to take my 67 bug into pretty nasty situations at stock height. Seems like having the same car for DE and rally wouldn't be viable though.

But a 914 with a VW engine in the back jacked up a bit...

TRE Cup 08-18-2004 05:15 PM

Jeff Zwart did some real long south american rally with a 914-6. he raised it a bit, installed some skid plates and motored on.

TRE Cup 08-18-2004 05:22 PM

how's this for inspiration? 3.2 powered early 911 up in washingtonhttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1092878565.jpg

nostatic 08-18-2004 05:32 PM

I'm afraid I don't need much inspiration for this one. It would be "something different" (ie not an RS).
