Smoking Oil Filler Tube after new muffler
I had my instant-g muffler modified to fit under the rear valence and installed on my 3.6. When I got the car home I went to check the oil and smoke was coming from the air filter on the oil tube, just steady streaming, since then I've also noticed a potent exhaust smell when the car is running almost like it's running too rich. I've also noticed that the car is taking a little longer to warm up than usual, tends to stall if I don't give it a few minutes. Any insight?

Hi Jason,
Smoking from the oil filler tube is not a result of anything you did with the muffler, but rather an indication that you are getting "blow-back" into the cxrankcase, presumably from worn or broken piston rings. I had the same symptoms, and found, upon tearing down of the engine, that I had three broken rings, and two broken "lands" between the rings. Broken or loose rings will allow some combustion by-products into the crankcase, and show up as smoke from your oil filler tube (all those vents into and out of the oil tanl). By the way, my engine was putting out just as much HP on the chassis dyno as it was when new, so the broken rings had little effect on ultimate power. Go figure!!!!
