I was trying to replace the worn, cracked bushings on my throttle linkage that mounts to the trans. Only the inside one is really bad, the outside one is in good shape still, but I will replace it with a new one also. THAT IS, if I can find out how I am supposed to get the linkage bar off the rod. I removed the pin, took off the washer, then slid the bar to the left to slide it off the rod coming out of the trans, the problem is the bar hits the left banana arm long before it has moved enough to clear the rod. Is there something I am missing here? Or is there more to it than just being able to just slide it off and put new bushings in it, like maybe having to drop the banana arm, or jack it up?

I had the reverse problem when I was re-installing my engine a few months ago. The engine was in place but the linkage piece was still in my hand. I ended up slipping the linkage onto the rod and then installing the bushing.
Try sliding the bushing off the rod without removing the linkage. Randy

I can do that for the outside one, but that is the one that is still good, it is the inside one that is crapped out. How did you get the piece back on? Was everything in place yet, or was the banana arm not in the way?

3.2,
The rod is threaded into the trans housing. Remove cotter pin and washer, place 8mm open end wrench on flat spots for cotter and unscrew. The whole assembly will come off for easy svc.

Once you get the outer bushing off, there should be enough movement of the linkage on the rod to allow it to come off.
Slide the outer bushing off and then begin sliding the linkage off the inner bushing. It may be a bit snug, but you should be able to get it. Randy

Well, I have it done, no more slop there. But, I did it a little different, I made a 180 degree spiral cut thru the bushing from top to bottom, that way the entire surface area is still enclosing the mating areas, I have seen this on some other bushings and sleeves before. Worked great.
smcdermaid, I saw the little flats on the rod while I was down there and I was wondering if that is what it was for. I didn't see your post till was finished. I will remember that for the next time I have to change the bushings out, hopefully in another 20 years. Thanks to all.
