930 shaken not stirred

Is this thing legit, or is it just some grey-market 930 that the dealer slapped a couple of cheap decals on? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=6433&item=2482533161&rd=1

I would call BS on a couple things in the description. The Martini edition had 100 more hp than a regular 930??? This model was produced in 3 versions in '79, US, Japan & ROW??? Wasn't the 930 completely absent from the US from '78 thru '86 due to emissions regulations?

I don't think he's saying the Martini edition has 100 hp more than a regular 930. He's saying that this car has upgrades that make it have 100 hp more than a stock 3.3 (86-89) 930. I have heard of the Martini edition 911, but not a 930. For the 911 all it was was a special paint job, there were no real upgrades with the Martini Edition. In fact, I don't think it was really an "edition", I think Bruce Anderson said that it was really just an option for that year, so it's hard to track how many there really were. It amounts to an option for a special paint job, nothing really special. There were US 3.0 930s in 1979. There were none in the US from 1980 through 1985 with the 3.3 litre 930 returning to the US in 1986. The mods look ok on this one, but it looks like the seller is writing technically accurate but a bit inflated copy to get a premium on a nice 79 turbo with a special paint job.

Oh, and by the way, ROW versions are not more rare and highly sought after. According to Bruce they command a 20% *discount* over the US version due to conversion issues. And the 935 might have won Le Mans but Moby Dick, for all it's legend and influence, did not. Of course if and when I try to sell my ROW Carrera Cab it will become the "rare and highly sought after ROW version" advertised here rather than the "cheap grey market car someone snuck into the US" that it probably was.

Looks nice, I like the paint although I'd prefer even more striping like the Martini cars had.

Looks like a nice driver, some fuchs with polished lip would go a long way toward making it nicer

Almost right. There was a U.S. version of the 930 in '79 AND '78, and each had a displacement of 3.3 liters.

The 3.0 cars were in '75-'77.

I wouldn't be mad at that.
I think I had a hot wheels© with that option, didn't cost extra either.

on the martini "edition":

A friend of mine had a 911 with the "martini stripe" option that looked like this car. His base color was silver. The car was a Targa, pretty sure it was a 78-79 SC. I do not know whether it was a Euro or US model, but could find out. Definitely not a turbo. He recieved a letter from PAG or PCNA that the car was a unique combination of exterior color, interior color, and the stripe. In other words they didn't make another exactly the same as his. The car had no performance enhancements as far as I could tell versus the standard model, just the decals on the side. (pretty sure they're decals)

The car was very low miles, I think under 20k. It went for a princely sum (for an SC) at the Barrett-Jackson auction a couple of years ago, more than he expected to sell it for.

As for this turbo, I have no idea whether it is authentic. The year is the right time for the stripe to be offered, though. I would be surprised if it had any performance enhancements from the factory but I don't really know.
