Relay Question

I've been trying to track down an annoying rattle that comes from behind my dashboard, right at the fuel/oil level guage. So, I pulled out the guage tonight and start feeling around for something loose. What I found really surprised me. I found a relay that was wedged in right in the area behind my fuel/oil guage. Part number 911.618.102.00.

I immediately notice the female receiver for the relay and plug it in, as I did so, I began to hear the most annoying sound known to man, yes my key was in the ignition. I guess a PO --a smart PO I might add-- disconnected this annoying relay to shut up the annoying buzz for good.

My question:

Does this relay do anything else, beside let me know that my door is open?

Please tell me it'll make my reverse lights work, fix my medicore 2nd gear, and give me more horsepower.

Philip,

If it's that annoying ... you might consider rewiring it to serve as a fan belt alarm ... controlled by an 'AND' logic relay driver chip using the alternator warning lamp and 'TD' tach drive signal.

Warren,

Very good idea! I'll get on it this weekend... Uh... Where do I start? Seriously...I'm pretty inept when it comes to this sort of thing.

Curious: Could I rewire the buzz to sound in the event that I lose oil pressure? Kind of the same idea as the big ol' light the trackers install in place of their clocks?

Philip,

Yes, an oil pressure buzzer would be a lot easier than the fan belt warning I suggested!

So how would one go about doing this?

Any books I can reference?
