Smog on a '76 911

Can anyone tell me if an EGR valve is req'd on a Ca.'76 911? Last time I went to smog test, the technician said his book didn't show an EGR on a '76, but does on a '77.

Thanks!

I just pulled part of the EGR system off a 1976 911S first sold in California. I've read that the lack of said components would cause the car to fail the visual inspection for emissions equipment. Don't know what the latest rules are regarding '76's. Cheers, Jim

I have pulled the schematic on the system and see that the EGR hooks up to the muffler and charcoal canister. There is a 3rd line that connects somewhere to the back of the engine. Can someone help me figure out where that connects?

Here are three pics from the back of my (dirty, recently removed) motor. You can see where all but the bottom line go, but you should get to that one without a problem anyway. If you need more images, let me know.

PASSED!

I just passed the TEST ONLY CENTER smog test! What a relief. If the laws don't change it should be my last time. Thanks for all of your help.

Congrats!

My 1981 RoW recently passed pre-sale test somehow with the smog pump hose pinched shut and an o2 sensor wire broken.

My 1986 Buick Grand National just got it's orders to TEST ONLY this year. So that means a little more stringent inspection. It's always nail biting time when the older cars need to pass.

If any of my state representatives side to negatively impact smog exemption laws, they lose my vote and a lot of others votes too.

I was very jazzed to get thru this smog test. The test only center actually did a less thorough check than my regular smog station did! I failed the first test and leaned it out a bit, 1/2 turn and it passed.

I however did not pass the smog. psdimfpdfpdopsmcposmvpodsvm. <- frustration. I took my car to my wrench before the inspection in order to make sure that I would pass. Hmm lets take a guess at what he overlooked...EGR valve. So I failed. Anyway I guess its time to go look for an EGR valve. MAN...

Don't throw away the smog stuff you strip off your car; you or somebody else may need it someday. Some of the '76 911 EGR stuff is NLA. Jim

I also have the part that goes from muffler to EGR(?) in good condition, I have offered it for sale once on the parts board. If someone wants it, send me an email or PM.
