factory paint
Just did a search and I'm not 100% sure but is an 82 911 factory paint job single stage? As in no clearcoat.

This would depend on the color, A metallic would have a clear coat and cost more when the car was new, If I'm not mistaken.
My 80 is clear coated ![]() |

That makes sense for a metallic color but since my 82 is black I'm guessing that its single stage.

That sounds resonable.
I just checked the color chart that came with my 80 SC and there was an extra charge for metallic's. Probably because of the clear coat and maybe the paint cost a little more because of the sparkles ![]() |

I'm not in the new era. Every metallic I've sprayed was a single stage. That goes for the Artic silver on the 914 race car painted 2 years ago. However, that was a polyurathane. You can paint metallics w/o a CC, you just can't color sand them. Polishing with fast cut is OK.
I'm not sure the early Porsche metallics were CC'd. It was an extra step and cost money. |

Jesset 100 thanks. For 82 it looks like anything metallic had a clearcoat while the solid colors did not

Clear coating of the metallic shades commenced with the 1970 production models, per the factory service manual.
