old silver color, can anyone help me find the paint code for this?

I am working on chosing a color for painting an older 911. I'd like to use the color on this car. Any ideas?

Thanks!

maybe...

That is a modified 64 or 65 356C. Unless it was a custom color, that is not a stock color for these years according to my Porsche Color Chart. However, previous years had a color - "Silver Metallic" code 6206 that looks pretty close to that.

cheers,
Michael

Thanks Michael!

So does that mean I can still get that color, with modern paint?

sure, you should be able to get that. Check Stoddards - they carry the original German Glasurit.

Wow! Cool! Now I have to find out just how much this will set me back :-D

Thanks!!

Nice cars Michael, wow. Really well done.

mhackney 08-21-2004 04:34 PM

thanks! The roadster is my baby! But the 911 I drive all the time. If only it were Viper Green!

What I want to know is, how to have time for a family AND two old Porsche cars? Oh and yeah, the cash too!

Thanks again

936 was the code for VW Silver Metallic. I dont know if its the same color as the 356 above.

nostatic 08-21-2004 04:37 PM

sorry...you may not paint scruffy that color.

mjshira 08-21-2004 04:39 PM

come Nostatic, what gives?

Thanks Shuie

Shuie 08-21-2004 04:39 PM

No prob :)

nostatic 08-21-2004 04:46 PM

it must stay primer. You are tempting kharma by painting it.

You have been warned ;)

Neilk 08-21-2004 04:46 PM

Did you ask Scruffy what he thinks about it?

To get the paint mixing instructions for 6206
Go to Glasurit

Enter POR for the Manufacture code

Enter 6206 for the Colour code and Start Query

You will then get the paint formulation for 2 different types of paint. Click on the 55 or 90 to get the exact formulation. Then see what the difference is between the two forumations.

James, if you absolutely must paint Scruffy, but you don't want to incur bad kharma, be advised that Aubergine is allowed. :D

Thanks Jim. I dont plan to paint the car soon. But I am leaning toward that color. I hope you guys wont kill me!

I can't say for sure looking a color on the screen, but that 356 looks like it has no blueish cast to it. More yellow. That is my favorite color and I would paint my car that silver if it weren't for the tan interior. The colors clash.

This is the color I looked for when I painted the 914. No blue. When you see all the colors in the book, you will see what I mean. I almsot had it right on the 914, but not quite. One thing to look for too, is the coarseness of the metallic. The real nice German metallics are the finest grind I have ever seen. This goes a long way towards having a great looking car.

a friend says a VW silver is the correct match for the '67S he is restoring

also check out the modern PAG colors Polar Silver (bluish) and Artic Silver (yellowish or warm cast)

Best bet might be to have a guy with the computerized photocell thingies "read" some paint that has been out of the sun....
