Clutch cable

84 Carrera

Does anyone know where the 20mm distance is measured from, on the pedal end of the cable? I have read that it is measured fom the "outside of the lock nut, to the end of the cable." Is the outside of the lock nut coser to the rear, or closer to the front of the car? The reason I need to know, is because when I adjusted it according to 101 projects I get a ticking sound when the clutch is pressed to the floor. Not sure if it is important, but I did just rebuild pedal cluster.

Input would be apprecated!

James

Hi: Get a Bentley manual for your Carrera, you'll love it. For my SC, the Bentley shows a picture of measuring the clutch release distance from the threaded end of the cable housing to the point where the endpiece meets the steel cable: 25mm. Meaning that a helper depresses the clutch cable and you are underneath measuring. That is after the clearance between the clutch positioning lever and the stop bolt is set (1mm for SC) Then, the rubber stop on the pedal cluster cover is set so that the right clutch release distance is obtained.
