Pass the emission test with a sticky injector
Brought my car in to have it tested for emission. I knew that cylinder no 3 wasn't operating correctly because when I remove the high tension wire from the dizzy, there wasn't a discernable drop in rpm like the other five cylinders.
I figure either a clog injector or a sticky injector. Tried to unclog the injector by throwing a bottle of Techron into the gas tank. Don't know what's in the Techron but the readout for my emission was the lowest since I been bring the car in for testing. It passed the Illinois test with flying color. Today I decided to see if tapping on the injector can cause it to unstick itself. Found a nice steel rod that I place against the injector and tapped on it. Started the engine and a black cloud of smoke along with a pop from the exhaust. The engine was running on all 6 cylinders again. Cheapest fix I ever did on thye P car. Today a nice day to go for a ride with the top off. Cheers |
That was a trick I've heard people use in the past. They would put in a non-working injector-i.e. no fuel discharge and use that cylinder as an air pump.
