Check Out My $2.00 Dead Pedal
I just couldn't see paying that much for a good quality dead pedal, so I decided to make one myself. What do you think? Not bad for $2.00 in aluminum and a few hours of fabricating.
![]() It was surprisingly easy. Honestly, the hardest part was coming up with the pattern, which took a lot of trial and error patterns. I am sure it isn't up to the quality of some of the manufacturer's products, but fits well. I designed it so it extended to the floor on the side to look boxed in. I think it gives it a more finished look rather than just bolted on. ![]()

Looks real good. I think it might have matched better if you rounded the corners off, but I see what you were doing, and it works.

Sean,
What kind of stock did you use? I've been tempted to do the same thing.

Looks great, but I got a question. How exacly does aluminum pedal help? I mean, it's still the stock pedal underneath right? Or does it have the beveled holes like the rennline series?

Thanks everyone. I used a piece of 4" aluminum corner stock from a local scrap yard. They were more than happy to cut me a piece. The hardest part, like I said, was making the template for it because you have to measure on a 90 degree angle the contours of the floorboards then cut around the angle. It is hard to tell from the picture, but the mounting flange is angled forward as well. Then just a lot of measuring on the hole pattern. Actually the $2.00 was enough for 2 pedals.
Anyone who wants to try this let me know and I will measure my pattern and post it here. I actually did mine with just hand tools (9 month pregnant wife who didn't want to hear the cut-out wheel). I consider my mechanical skills minimal, so I am sure anyone can do it. I drilled the holes to match the pedals that were already on the car. They aren't countersunk for that reason. It does give a lot of support for the left foot around some sharp corners though.

what I want to know is how the hell are you guys reaching in there with a drill, near the brake/clutch pedals and are able to apply enough pressure to drill those holes????
(Mine has been duck taped, that's right DUCT TAPED, in the location for 5 months now.) I do have some problems with reach b/c of the side impact bars in the doors, but when I do get to contort and get under the dash, I'm still unable to drill through. Then I get too hot and bothered, AND frustrated, have another Maudite, and say screw it. These results are with a brand new titanium drill bit so it's not b/c dullness. Any strategic suggestions are welcome. ..... oh, BTW, nice dead pedal. If I had the means to bend/cut diamond plate I would do the same. |

sfmlaw17,
I like your pedal, your car isn't black is it? Reason I ask is my wife in I had dinner in Charlotte and I saw a black 911 that had been converted to a cab? I live just below Gastonia on the SC side of the line. We'll have to meet up when they have the next NC Mtn run

I'll volunteer to CAD model your sketch and attempt to post a full size flat pattern for those who want to bend their own. Just let me know the dimensions ...

I will redraw the pattern this weekend and give you the measurements. Hopefully someone with more computer knowledge can post the design that is easily downloadable. One thing, you will need to use corner stock. Flat stock will not work unless you have a metal brake to bend it. The stuff I used is 3/16 thick, way too thick to bend crisply. The scrap yard is the best place to get it. If anyone hase troubles finding any, let me know and I will get you some and mail it.
No, my cab is red. I live over by Martha River's Park off Union Road. I would love to go on one of the runs. It is TOUGH to get to with a drill. That is partly the reason that I designed it to go all the way to the floorboard with no gaps, for the stability. From there, and a lot of patience, you can use a self-tapping sheet metal screw.
