'70 911T cv joint removal

I am trying to replace the inner boots on both sides. According to Waynes book, I remove the circlips and the joints should come right off. Mine don't. Is there something else I have to do because it is an early car? Or are they just stuck and I need to use more force?

Thanks,

allan

Maybe I wasn't clear in my explanation. I have them separated from the transmission. I have also removed the circlip at the end. I am now trying to get the two pieces that house the ball bearings off the axel shaft. However, they will not budge. I am trying to replace the boots on the transmission side only while I ahve the motor out. My question is: Is there something else holding it on or do I just need to use more force. I do see that there are grooves on the end on the shaft. Does that have anything to do with my problem?

Use more force. They are likely corroded in place. I like to support the inner "race" on the top of the vise on the inside and drive out with a deadblow hammer. It usually takes a few blows to get it out. Don't worry about the boot. YOu are replacing that anyway. Did you get the boots with the integral metal collar? This method will work for that type, othewise you have to do it another way. just drop the half shaft so the shaft hits and the CV does not. Once you jar it loose it shold slide off.

Clean all the splines with some steel wool or equivilent while they are off.
