How to check used oil cooler????

A friend recently bought a used engine oil cooler. Seller, who we trust, believes the cooler to be from a car that was running well before the cooler was removed. However, is there an easy way to check the cooler out for metal shards as added insurance? Are there professional cooler cleaning services? Opinions and advice welcome...

You local radiator shop should be able to help out. From cleaning and repair to pressure testing and painting (if you want it painted). Usually for a nominal fee.
