Unhappy 911 Carrera 3.2 stalls at idle

Hi, this is my first post !!

I have a 1985 911 Carrera 3.2

First of all, the car starts perfectly. When starting in cold, (fist time in the day, for example), it stands some time in the hi-rev idle, that's ok, and then goes to the normal idle at 900 RPM. But then, in 20 - 30 seconds, the car stalls like if it had an electric failure or out of gas..

If you try to start again, it don't start. Have to wait a little bit, and insist in the ignition, finally, starts, making some weird noises.

If you keep the engine revving (not idle) everything work fine.

What could be happening?

Thanks in advance...

Check distributor cap and rotor.

Check the condition of your spark plug wires too. If the outer sleeves break off in your hand, you probably need new ones.

Tap on the ICV, idle control valve. It may be dirty, worn or sticking and not properly doing it's job. If it corrects the problem you can remove and clean with carb cleaner and a little compressed air. 10 minute project.

I had the same scenario. Turned out to be the alternator and regulator. Do a search under "3.2 low idle"

Thanks everybody... This will be very helpfull because this:

Here in Spain now there is happening a derrick's strike...

(Sorry if that are not the correct words... I mean: that little trucks/van that carry on the cars to the workshop... are in strike and all spain's roads are full of suspended cars in their borders...) LOL (sorry for my english)

So, as I worry about a stall and not start again (lately, its more and more difficult to start it after a stall), I'll wait to carry it when strike go off...

And as the car is far away that 'my confidence workshop', all your responses will be very helpfull in order to tell some non-specialited mechanic what is happenin'...

Far away means 342 miles (550 km),...

thanks! keep on!
