Anyone using this Autometrics jackpoint/tow hook?
Lately I've started worrying about how I would get my '75 onto a flatbed without damaging its fiberglass bumpers. This looks like a neat (albeit expensive) device for jacking and towing. What worries me a little bit is the amount of bending stress placed on the engine mounting studs.
Anyone have any reviews of this? Will Pelican carry it? Tow hook with Integrated Jack Point http://www.autometricsmotorsports.co...rreraunder.jpg |

I would imagine that a good hit on that thing could damage the case. Specifically, with that long lever arm (the hook) hanging out there, if you went off the track backwards and this thing dug into the ground, hit some armco, caught the curbing, etc and wanted to rip off, what would a chunk of case come with it?

Looks neat, but it looks like a liability.
I too am trying to figure out a rear tow hook to go with my fiberglass bumpers. |
There's no reason why a tow hook has to be attached to a running car. Why not make the loop removeable and attach it when the need arises? The easily accessible lift point is a good idea though.

Sherwood's right that the hook can be removed and stowed.
I'm mainly wondering about the attachment method. Do you think those two studs that this gizmo attaches to are strong enough for jacking/towing over the long term? I cringe every time I jack up the heavy 930 engine at the engine case seam by the sump (though this is what I've been doing for years). Plus, my car's very low and it's tough to get a jack under there. |

I've seen a few of these installed on Autometrics track cars at Roebling Road, and while I can't condone buying parts from the enemy (just kidding), i've never heard of a car having any problems with them.

I'd hate to back into a curb with it. But a certain amount of protective flexibility might be a part of its design?

$265 seems a little much for it, but I'm sure it is a quality product...
