Need a good alternator rebuilder in Riverside, CA area
I decided to have the alternator rebuilt rather than just replace the faulty voltage regulator. It overcharged the battery and boiled it over.
Any shop in the Riverside/San Bernardino areas that will rebuild an alternator if I hand it to them? A lot more convenient than shipping it off. Does a rebuilt alternator for an '89 Carerra include a new voltage regulator? There's no way of replacing the brushes yourself, right? Wayne's article suggests you can, but I think it's only for early models. Thanks for any suggestions. |
Anyone?

Look for Wagner Alternators in the Norco East Corona area

Actually when you replace voltage regulator for the later alternators with the built in voltage regulators you replace the brushes at the same time. The whole unit is built as one. A couple of screws is all it take to replace everything.
However, replacing the stator and diodes is another cup of tea. |
I see...but in a previous thread somebody said that the "commutator" ring inside will probably be grooved and worn from the brushes. Can you see this ring once you take the regulator/brushes out? Perhaps I can inspect it and see if I can just get away with replacing the regulator only. Stators and diodes usually don't ever go bad.
