Bluish smoke on start up
I have a 1987 Carrera with 65,000 miles. It recently started blowing bluish smoke out the exhaust on starting up. It goes away rather quickly to be replaced by a blackish smoke that disappears quickly. I had a major service at 62,000 miles that included resetting resetting valve clearances among other things. I had an '82 that also blew smoke but it was clearly an oil eater. The '87 doesn't use much oil between changes. Any thoughts? Thanks.

My '88 did (does) the same blue smoke thing when starting in the morning. I have found that if I let the engine idle 10-15 seconds before shutting it off it does not smoke at start-up. I watch the oil level guage and when it stabilizes I shut her down. Seems to work everytime.
Good Luck Andrew

Just a point of interest, mine used to puff blue smoke after each start-up which everyone says is normal. However after having the valve guides done, it rarely puffs now.
