122K '89 Carrera "No pass" emissions
Quick guys...
What are some possible causes of an '89 with 122000 miles on it not passing emissions. If it is a matter of tuning, I'm good with that, but would bad valves guides or valves cause an overly high HC value? What have you Carrera owners seen. I'm more concerned with any mechanical problems that might require a head teardown. If it's a matter of tuning it...it'll be fine. I don't have the car available to me to trouble shoot or put on a gas analyzer, but wanted some preliminary feed back from you Carrera owners. Also, I have not seen the EPA test report to know what the values look like, I"m just guessing here, as the car has not pass emissions twice... Thanks! |

make aure the Oxygen sensor is hooked up / functioning. I live in CO and the PO failed 2 emissions tests until he went to his mechanic who just hooked the 02 sensor back up and it passed easily.

I agree the two most obvious are a bad 02 and a bad cat. I bet neither has been changed in that car as a 3.2 engine will still run quite strong with both those components in bad condition.
