Targa top

the drivers side of my top seems to have an air leak (sounds like a 747 on the freeway!) I can't feel any air coming in but I noticed that the latch doesn't seem to have a snug fit when locked in place. is there an adjustment that can be made?

It depends on the latch. I understand Leland was able to reshim his SC latch. What year is your car?

Be careful with these air leaks and the pull the wind can put on your top. There are stories of tops flying off, though often it is simply the owner's mistake in not locking down the top.

The latch mech. has a safety feature. You can test for this by unlocking the latches: the top should only free itself by pushing both latches over to their full "unlatch" position. This spring-loading ensures, like the hood, that the top stays in place until you make an effort to override the safety.

You are probably due for a reskin on the top. It is good insurance and makes a world of difference. You can do this yourself: use the Search button to delve into the information. About $150.00+ for the skin, pins, pin covers, etc. that you will need. Getting into the webbing is a different story: that is for the more skilled.

Make sure the four Targa clips in front and four in back are fully engaged. The "U" shaped clips about 1 inch inward from the leading and trailing underside edge of the top.

To localize where the noise is comming from try some ducttape on the gap between targa top and windshieldframe.
When i was going for longer trips I used to tape it, now i've installed some selfadhensive black foam to fill out the gap, very effective and it's easier to remove top. It's now as silient as a coupe.

Palle, can you post a pic on how you did the black foam? I'm assuming that you stuck it behind the windshield frame, but I'd like to see how you did it.

I've read some of the targa reskinning articles, but I was not able to follow them as I would like to. I need to do this also, but I'm a bit nervous doing this myself.

Yes, I'm sorry about that. I don't have a digital camera, sometimes i use my cellphone camera but that requires that i download to my own PC with bluetooth and i'm working i Germany at the moment, so please, patience. As a matter of fact it will be something like 10 days from now, unless i can borrow a camera in Germany, i'll see what i can do.
You are right, It's fitted it behind windshieldframe.

I, too, have done the self-adhesive foam weatherstripping on the windshield header to try to quiet that one noisy air leak. It hasn't really resolved it -- I'd love to get my top rebuilt and aligned. Is Cars, Inc. the best place to go for that?

Cheers!

Cars Inc certainly has the right stuff. I saw a top he did the other day and it looked new. He turns them around in just a couple of days too.
