fender vacuum box

I have an 83SC, wondering how the car would work if I take off the vacuum box that is in the driver fender.

driver fender, vacuum box?

Are you talking about the windshield wiper fluid tank, or the AC drier perhaps?

or is it the tank with hoses that connect to the fuel tank and sits above the washer fluid container?

I'm not sure how much this will muck up the running of a CIS car (like your SC) if it is removed. It is part of the evaporative emissions control.

Why do you want to get rid of it?

You will definitely pollute more and may not pass inspection. The charcoal canister is part of the same system - it is heavy but still needed. If I'm right about your car, you are not talking about that (which is oval in Xsection) but about a smaller squareish box with 2 hoses to it. But the answer is the same in either event - leave well enough alone. It sure won't help things any.

thanks for the reply. I am getting the car ready for a glass body kit, so moving thinks and losing thinks. More or less clearing out the inner fender areas and taking out weight when ever possible. The charcoal cansiter stayed, but this one I wasn't so sure about.

Just leave and save yourself effort and possible complications - the wt. is minimal.

Be sure to check out Jim calzia's web page and the amny posts here on "adding lightness."

Best.
