Carrera script decals

I'm considering adding the script above the rockers on my plain jane chiffon white '81. Paint is too nice yet to respray, so in the meantime I want to dress up what's there a little.

When looking on eBay there is a wide range of pricing from $26-$200. I didn't expect to find such a discrepancy. I want a quality piece of vinyl, I think it's vinyl, but not necessarily $200 worth. Can someone recommend a seller as I didn't see it listed here on PP.

Thanks....

I saw a $200 set of gold carrera decals on ebay - those are NOS decals, so of course theyre gonna cost alot.
The $26 ones work well - its all just vinyl. Besides, the NOS ones might be too old to even be useable (after 30 years, you can only image what has happened to the glue on them). :)

keep in mind that vinlyl comes in different levels of durability and thickness.

i would find someone that uses oracal 851. this is a 8-10 year premium 2mill vinyl. a lot of sign guys save money using the cheap stuff.

remember you get what you pay for and $26 is a big red flag to me. also keep in mind the quality of the cut vinyl is directly related to the quality of the art it is cut from.

MikeZ on this forum also has them. You might look at what he has to offer.

Yup....

I have had mikez's decals on my car for about a year now. Still look like I just put them on.

Hey Mike, is your guy outa jail?!?!?!

Funny you should ask....he was on his way over after visting his PO...they made him pee in a cup. He failed, straight to the "hotel"....his MOM had to bring my stock over.....don't know when he will get out again but I have a good stock of basic colors....anything off the wall or custom will have to wait.

BTW, $65 a pair and I pay shipping....they are high quality.

Thanks for the information, guys. My search here didn't get much.

I did get a reply from one guy on eBay that described his vinyl carrera decal as "Mactac 8300 series. Thickness is around 3 mil." Is this a good piece?

All things being equal, I would surely buy here from another Pelicanite before shopping eBay.

I have one little snag. The wifey aint crazy about big stickers on the car.

Joe Bob 08-27-2004 08:19 AM

Neither is my wife....but then she hates the car(s) anyways.....she also hates it that I change colors more than my socks....%^B

He He He ......LOL!!!

Hey Mike,

Do those things come off fairly easily? Do they leave a residue or film? I might be interested in some red or black or silver negatives if you have them. How 'bout a pic?

Perhaps someone with photo editing prowess could add a black Carrera decal to the car. Might help sway the owner..... err wife. ;)

They come off with a heat gun. There is a bit of residue but comes off with simple green or goof off and a clean towel.

I have black red and silver in stock....in CARRERA and that "other" name in both positive and negative stripes. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1093637325.jpg

Terry,

I like your car as it is. FWIW, IMHO I think you should skip the graphics and put the money toward something else, like DE, or a set of tuneup gauges as a present for me.

Paulporsche 08-27-2004 12:47 PM

Mac tac 8300 series is called an intermediate range vinyl and only has a 3 yr warranty.

Thanks, Paul. Where do I send the check. Be sure to wait outside by the mailbox! :p

Jim, No one here has mentioned they sell oracal 851 vinyl and I had a few offers in this thread and PM. If this is the best, then I suppose it's what I should get, but who sells it? I don't to buy again in 3 years.

Mikez and Dave, Is there a warranty on your decal or does it meet the oracal 851 standard?

Maybe I have too much information now... LOL!

TRE Cup 08-27-2004 02:32 PM

2 mil thickness, 7 year standard material made by 3M

rattlsnak 08-27-2004 04:41 PM

OK, hijack alert, well kinda,. someone posted (maybe laura?) the specs on where exactly to "stick" them, as in xx number of inches from the bottom, xx number from the sides, etc.. Anyone have that info? Im getting ready to put my decals on. (complete set, with engine lid script also)
