Will, I don't have access to a camera at the moment. The part that failed was the c-shaped ears on the lifting arm that are on either side of the moving threaded block. The ears just opened up and it came off the block. I looked at the part under magnification and could see several stress cracks around the inside of the ears, it was one of the stress cracks that opened up, it seems to me a complete circle, on the ears would be much stronger, but then that would complicate manufacture of the jack somewhat, probably at least one or two more steps involved.

Now, has anybody had a problem with the scissors type (944)?
I bought one on eBay to replace the Bilstein 911 stock type one for emergency usage. Partly to save wt. but it turns out to weigh about the same. If safer that would be great - and it seems like it ought to be.

Sounds to me like NHTSA ought to regulate the d&*(mn jacks....

Stupid *ss factory jack clobbered the rocker panel when it gave out 2 years ago - scared the hell out of me as it *exploded* as it collapsed:

Damage to the left of the jack hole - hard to see - but pushed the panel in by about 1/4" X 4"

Randy, do you (plan to) use the factory jack port with the 944 jack?

I think I can use the weld lips or whatever that project down about an inch from the body. I haven't been real engaged in this issue since my main interest right now is making the care driveable.... Maybe we should start a thread on using 944 jacks on early 911s??

I had my car come off jackstands a couple years ago. I was in the process of clamping up a replacement suspension pan and I was under the car checking some measurements and fine-tuning the positioning. My spidey-sense went off just as I heard this loud groaning/creaking sound. Rolled out from under the car just as it slid sideways off the front jackstands and came crashing down. My floor jack was under the front pan and the brand-new suspension pan was twisted into a pretzel when sandwiched between the jack and the falling car. I considered myself lucky! The suspension pan hammered out just fine in 5 mins.
