NoVa Pelicans -- Anything Going on This Weekend?

I'm visiting my sister in Leesburg (starting Thursday) and figured I'd see if there was an occasion to meet any of y'all.

Unfortunately I'll be Porscheless ... but I'll be in the iX, so I can get to wherever the goings on are going on.

TIA,

JP

JP,

On the 29th we are meeting at the new Air & Space Museum by Dulles to see the new toys and watch LeMans on the big screen. After that we are doing a little fun run out on the back twisties.

Check your PM's. Sent you my cell#.

JP, Saturday AM till 1PM(?) is PCA tech at Curry's in Chantilly. Not far away from Leesburg. Also Saturday is a PCA "meeting" where instead of having a sit down meeting, a "dream" garage tour has been organized. And there is also a 356 show/concours at the Reston Town Center. And, as Charlie mentioned, there's the air & space museum thing on Sunday. Other than that, it's just a boring weekend in Northern VA.

Check out www.pcapotomac.org for more info on the PCA events this weekend.

I'll PM you my contact info. I live close to Leesburg.

Ron, come on down! There's always room at my place for you. We have a DE in early Oct. Maybe it'll be a good time for a fun run thru the NoVA countryside. Oh, my 73E engine drop for the 2.4 --> 2.7RS rebuild will be in October. Lu says Hi!

Thanks, guys! I'll give a call on Thursday when I get in-state.

Sunday sounds like a lot of fun, but I may need to get on the road to get back home. The Dulles A/S Museum will be cool -- my sister worked at Dulles and one of her best friends was very senior in security. Over the Labor Day weekend just prior to 9/11 I got the full facilities tour, including the A/S Museum "overflow" hangars (w/ various air and spacecraft -- including a Shuttle -- in various states of repair). There was also an SR-71 in its own hangar that was kept essentially "flight ready" 24/7/365; though it had a flat tire...

JP, what Charlie and Jim said. Hopefully you can make it to the drive on Sunday and head back home instead of touring the Museum. The details are here: http://www.dorkiphus.com/porsche/viewtopic.php?t=1652 .
Gratuitous fun run photo:

JP, It was nice meeting you bro. Sorry I couldn't stick around to tour more of the museum, I was itching to get behind the wheel and carve up the back roads. Give me a call next time you come down, we can head to DC, and get some dark brews.
Here are some pictures:

Nice seeing you down here, JP. I hope you enjoyed your stay in NoVA. I hope the next time you come down, you'll have the Turbo with you, or that sweet 2002.

Thanks, guys. It was great getting together with y'all. Wish I'd freed up earlier on Saturday...

Nice pix, Pari -- but a shot featuring your SC is conspicuously absent.
How were the back roads?

That RS is gorgeous, and rumor has it was Niki Lauda's. It's a beautiful car ... for a short hood.

One of my favorite parts of the tour was when our (excellent) tour guide, in discussing the UH-1 Iroquois' smoke screen capabilities, said to bunch of Porschephiles "now, I don't know if you know what happens when you burn oil...."

Alright, if you are going to twist my arm !

The run through the back roads was an adrenaline rush. I saved a copy of the route, so the next time you come down we can organize a little drive of our own. Hurry up with the engine swap so you can drive the turbo down here !

Jim -- I'm chuckling. "Pisser" is really a Bostonian term (pronounced "pissaah"). But I guess all us Yankee crackers look the same to all y'all.

To adequately and accurately describe the fun we had in New York-ese (esp. my Brooklyn sub-dialect) would involve language unsuitable for the Technical Board's PG-13 rating. In Beantown dialect, however it was a "Wikkid Pissaah."

Pari -- you're ON for a rural run when I make it down again. By then I suspect you'll have drilled "lightening" holes in your dash, the gear lever, the e-brake handle, etc.
