trailering question and relocation to NC...
 

it seems i'm going to be relocating to NC outside of fayetteville in the near future, providing everything stays on track.
i have a 30ft enclosed triple axle trailer our team owns which i'm using....wieghs in around 3000lbs
inside it will be my shelby charger or the 911 and my stuff, total weight approx car/2500lbs, stuff/1000-1500lbs.
this puts it less than 7500 total approx, it is well within the trailer limits.

my first question is this, i have an 88 3/4 ton suburban....8 lug wheels, 350 4bolt main, the works......could i use my suburban to pull this load or would it be a bit much? i'm not worried about speed, as long as i have no problems in the mountains.

second question........what is the porsche scene like in central NC? and how many pelicanheads are near?
i'm really hoping this works out as it's one of those crossroads you hit in life, and opportunity awaits.

Sorry to hear you heading south, but I wish you the best. I can't speak for the Suburban, but my Tahoe which is virtually the same can tow 7500lbs. You need to have at least one axle with brakes though. If you don't have one you'll need to pick up a brake controller to activate the rear brakes. It's the hills through WV which will bee the toughest so you may want to plan a route to avoid as much of the really tough stuff as possible. Also, if you head down soon the heat may play a big factor.

I'm sorry to hear you're moving. I was hoping we could "caravan" to Hershey next year as my appendix didn't cooperate this year. Good luck and congratulations on the move!

Bell, that Suburban should be no problem. My '03 Ranger recently hauled 6000lbs 100miles without any problems. Just make sure you get an electric brake controller installed in the cab, makes driving a big trailer a lot more managable.

the move is for something that will let me better fund my porsche "addiction" (well more reasons than that), but good things are on the horizon.
i've got a brake controller so i'm set, gonna throw some new discs/pads on the front etc.......
this takes care of one of the many little obsticles....thanks :D

any thoughts on the NC scene?
where do i get to play with my 911 at? :D

Lot's of active Pelican's in NC. They organize fun runs into the mountains. :) And, you're not that far from NoVA. :D

Just think how close you'll be to VIR and the occasional run through the Dragan's Tail plus the ability to drive your car all year.

Welcome to the Carolinas!!! We were the fastest growning PCA chapter in the US last year and to the best of my knowledge still going strong. Charlotte is pretty active but is a 120 mile'ish drive from Fayetteville. VIR is a great track and my guess is a 3 hour drive for you.

Pls make sure that the 'burb has a transmission cooler on it. That is the piece of the vehicle that takes a beating when pulling a loaded trailer and you need to keep it happy.

my suburban is a 3/4 ton job....8 lug wheels, trans cooler built into the radiator (is brand new) and the super beefy factory hitch setup......i'm going to put in new u-joints on the axle too :)
it's got some (alot LOL) of body rot but should work fine as the frame is solid :D
should i change the rear end gear oil? i could inspect the pinion gears when i'm in there too.

Might have a good tranny shop flush the fluid unless its been done recently. If the other fluids have not been changed recently then its cheap insurance.

Check the tires, U-joints and such then press on!
