Clicking door...

I bought a new door stop thinking I was going the fix that pesky click as the door went past its first and second stop positions. Come to find out, the door stop itself, has nothing to do with the clicking. My brother showed me that the clicking was due to the clevis portion that pins the door stop arm. Seems the two through holes in the clevis have elongated over time (1985).
My simple fix was to enlarge the clevis holes along with the hole in the door stop arm...NOT! I dont know what the door stop arm is made from, but its not from this side of the planet! Has anyone tried to drill through this material? I am thinking the only way to get through that stuff is with a carbide drill. Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
Paul

Hold it... you may want to consider a different method (if it's not too late already). Forget drilling the elongation... I don't think you need to go that far.

First, go to your local hardware store and get 2 of stainless steel bolts, 6mm x ~1 inch, 4 stainless washers and two stainless nylock nuts that fit the 6mm bolts.

Pop the roll pins out of the jamb brackets on each door, one door at a time. Wiggle the 6mm bolt through the jamb bracket and door arm from the top, thread the nut on from bottom (using one washer on top, one on bottom).

Snug the nut up. You'll need two box end wrenches for this. Now get a 10mm socket and find the two verticaly-oriented bolts in the doors where the arm goes into the door, and make sure those are snug too. You have to open the door pretty wide, so don't do this w/o having the bolts the jambs first. Now lube the arm with some heavy grease.

Repeat for other door.

Shazam. No more clicks/pops when you open or close the doors. If the ever do start popping again, just tighten up the nylock nuts again.

Total cost? About $2.50. No drilling? Priceless.

Thank you Schnellmann...I'll give it a try. I took that type of assy. out of the clevis because of the clicking, and brought it back to spec., thinking someone had half-stepped putting it together correctly to begin with. But for $2.50, its worth another try.
Regards,
Paul

Just a follow-up...Worked like a champ. It may not be OEM, but at least it doesnt click when opening and closing.
Thanks again to Mr. Schnellmann for taking the time to share his wisdom.

$1.60 and the Click is gone!

Thanks from me also!

After two years of that annoying click every time I opened the passenger door, I took a close look and saw all of the parts moving around. Bought the parts and 5 minutes later, problem gone!
