prince of darkness now lives in Ct.
If anybody has been following my threads you know that the 1986 930 3.3 I purchased was not only stored for 4 years but also who ever worked on it before owned visegrips a hammer and wire connectors. I have replaced all defective .frozen, buggged up pieces in the engine compartment and now truly believe the problem goes back to the dme/ecm. I have replaced that as I said the old owner did tell me his was bad. I also know that the previous owner had the fuel enrichment and revlimeter replaced. So it would make sense that my problems with the car are computer related. So my quetion is how do I test the ecm/dme ? I know power is going to it but I know little else. I own the bentley manual but only describes the 3.2 non turbo which has a much more complicated ecm ( twice the prongs )I thank you for your help.

This morning I checked out the 2 relays under the seat of my car plus the ecm/dme. I found out what they were and then pulled them out and cleaned the connections. Now the car runs and idles, must have been bad connections. I still need to figure out why but since the car had so many wiring issues I am not suprised. I can not get the idle below 1200 rpm but I just want it to run to clean out the heat exchangers and so on.Also when I screw my idle screw in the car idle lowers is this normal.

The Rev limiter is in the distrib cap. instead of looking like a normal one, it has what looks like two bent fingers from the side. After I bought my car, I changed to the proper one and now hit redline occ. pretty neat sound as it cuts the car out. Sort of like F-1 cars with my Borla quad muffler. I had a prob with setting my idle. It seemed like there was a hump in it. Couldn't get it set right. But, after fixing a few other issues on the car like vac leak in the line to the distrib, it went away. Do as much troubleshooting as you can, fix the little probs and others may go away with it. Good luck. Brian

in the newer 930's they put a gas limiter under the seat.I know this becuase I entered the part # into pelicans data base and that's what came up. I get this car so it runs at 1200 rpm for idle sometimes it bounces lower for awhile. I am going to let the computer run a little while before I play around with adjustments.

Before celebrating too hard or getting hot and heavy with the throttle, I would adjust the valves, check compression, and check it over for pulled head studs, oil leaks etc. Sitting for four years does awful things to Porsches.
That poor guy you bought it from...had an uncle like him who had everything but lost it all to alcohol. Sad... Did you ever find out if those rear brake ducts are factory or added later? I think there's an option code for these so you could tell. Also, the rear bumper guards and side marker indicates "gray market" import, but taillights are US model. Strange. Otherwise SCREAMING deal! I'm jealous. Enjoy... Last edited by jkarolyi; 09-05-2004 at 05:21 PM.. |
