pausing on the slope

ok...no more stuff...I'm done (for awhile).

Hey lookie there...stuff's missing from the engine compartment:

yes, I've since clipped the ends of the zip ties:

The short story: AC is gone (everything but the fan that blows air through the dash vents), air pump is gone. TRE roll bar is in, proper extinguisher mount is in, SFI-rated padding is in, second harness is in, rear seats and other stuff out, RS rear carpet kit in. Upgraded sways in (Smart front, Welt rear).

T-bars are next, but will have to wait until after the first of the year...at least.

Look's good, Todd

Sometimes I wonder if it worth it to trim off the zip tie ends if their not it the way?
A trimmed one can turn into a sharp little dagger to snag your flesh on when your reaching around them.

Looks great Todd! Surprised to see the heater blower and hoses still there tho. I'm thinking about removing mine just to tidy the compartment.

Zip tie or tie-wrap tool works without leaving those razor sharp edges. It stretches/tightens the tie, then snips it clean. Looks like a little gun.

What did you use to plug the port where the smog pump hose plugs in or does it have to be plugged?

found a link.. http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/Displayitem.taf?itemnumber=6348

I recently removed my heater hoses and blower (backdated the heating) and the engine compartment looks so much better. The heat doesn't blow as hard, but it's actually the perfect amount of heat now vs. the toe-cooking blast of the blower setup.

Hey JP, Is there a step by step instruction on backdating the heating system? My engine compartment blower isn't plugged in and hasn't been since I bought the car 6 months ago. I also haven't felt any fresh air blower from the front, so I could have other issues. I too, live in SoCal, and really don't care much about heat and want to get most of that stuff out of engine compartment if possible.

Excellent job! It looks much more refined. I bet that a spark plug change would be soooo much easier now. I think I'll do the same to the engine compartment.

Backdate the heater - you'll be glad you did.

If backdating the heater involves new SSIs, that's on the plan, but I'm over budget for the year (decade actually).

If it is just yanking hoses and plugging things, maybe I can swing that. I seem to recall orange balls stuffed into the fan housing on my baja bug...

Ditto. You need to get rid of all those "snakes" running over your engine.

Terry-
On my '76 (with SSIs) backdating the heater was a matter of replacing the two metal plates on the front of the fan shroud with the plates that include ducting from either a pre-74 911 or from a turbo. You simply swap out the old plates with the new/old ones and run the heater hoses from the tops of the heat exchanges to them. The engine fan then acts as the blower when you activate the heat. Once you've made this change you can remove the blower and all associated hoses. I think on an SC you may need to change one of the pieces on the engine tin where the heater hoses route from under the car. Do a search on "backdate" for more info.

Great job Todd. My rollbar has been modified a bit and is nearly ready to install and I'm (slowly) fabbing some brackets for my new lightweight seats. Harnesses are in the box waiting to be installed. The slope is indeed slippery.

come on in...the water's fine. A bit expensive though. Kinda like using Perrier for the bathtub...

Thanks...now I have to investigate the backdate...damn meddling kids.
