73 VGE - Kermit's Got a New Green Coat

Well, it appears that we are nearing the end of my saga. Got a call from the mill yesterday, and the custom Houndstooth fabric I've had reproduced is finished!!!! They shipped it today, and I will have it middle of next week. I then pull a yard off to send to Autos to finish my seats, and they ship the seats to Michael McGrath - my master rebuilder. He installs the seats and I am ON MY WAY!!

But let’s show you the latest pix. Here are two shots of the car in primer just prior to painting Viper Green. He has completely painted the trunk, and is going to paint the engine compartment as well.

Then Mike went through painting the parts and pieces that weren't attached to the frame!! I won't show you all the shots he sent me!!

Here is the master himself, painting the rear bumper, surrounded by Viper Green components.

Rear deck, ready for those letters that spell "P*O*R*S*C*H*E"

Here is KERMIT Hisseff. . . . Getting close!!

And here is Kermit's business end. Ready to install the engine. Well, almost. Mike's going to paint the inside of the engine compartment, too. This pic was taken just before that.

I am getting excited. The Mid-October date seems very realistic now, and since the fabric is now finished, I am on my way. Soonly, I will be chasing other Pelicans around the highways and byways.

Nice .... What kind of paint..single stage or base/ clear? what brand? Can you ask what clear if 2 stage(and what reducer and activator either way). Old school gun looks like..binks siphon feed? Those really lay it down slick!

Thanks,

Harold:

I don't know all of the technical stuff. But, he is using DuPont Chromaone, which is a single stage, urethane paint.

He used a highfilling primer, but I don't know the brand.

Bernie:

Very funny The real funny part is that I am currently in Florida, riding out the Hurricane with my in-laws.

But if I don't show up at a "beer social" with Kermit in October, I'll be buying the beer all night. Then I'm tracking down the Rennlister.

Eric:
I didn't have anything to do with the dynamat. The PO put it in. It isn't only in the engine compartment, but also in the interior. Here's a picture of it on the floor of the car.

I don't know if it was on the inside of the doors, but I don't think that it is. There are a number of people on this and the early911S board that have suggested that I pull it out, but I know that it is pricey, and the weight really doesn't bother me that much (I am not going to track the car) and I have heard that Targas are more than just a bit noisy, so "hushing" the road noise a bit won't be a problem for me.

A targa a bit noisy??? What did you say Larry?? Speak up man!! I thought it was cool that the radio still works in my car. But now, I'm not sure what it's used for.

Looks good Larry. I can't wait to see it. Even if you do have your car, we'll still let you buy the beer!
