Replacement of Fuzzy Strip on Door

Hi,

Part #79 in the drawing below looks terrible in my car.

How do you remove to old strip?

the older models had that strip heavily glued in place. to remove an original, the frame needs to be removed from the door, and a hammer and screwdriver used to chisel it out. the new one just slips in, and a spot of glue at the top keeps it from getting dragged down.

John,

Thanks. More work than I expected. I can access the strip part above the door since I have a targa. Do I really need to pull the door apart? How far does the strip extend into the door?

the felt channel goes all the way to the bottom of the track. window height plus about 3". if it's been replaced before, you can hook the edge of it and pull it out, then silicone spray the part that goes into the door, and slide it in as far as possible, then roll up the glass 3", insert a slot screwdriver blade into the felt at the top edge of the glass, and roll the window down again as you push the felt in at the same time with the screwdriver. raise glass and repeat as necessary.

Thanks John. I think the stuff is original so it sounds like a winter project for me.
