From the test drive yesterday
Mt. Rainier ![]() Mt St Helens ![]() ![]() Mt. Adams ![]() just the view ![]() Looks like California doesn't it ![]() ![]() almost home again ![]() These are just the beginning of what is really happening. Total mileage is closer to 550 than 600 miles so around 850 km. I suspect 152 miles will be spent in 3rd gear or lower. 114 miles in 4th gear or lower and 235 miles in 5th. The majority as you might imagine on roads made for a Porsche. That calculated with a short gear box, my 5th is a normal 4th in a 915 box. I ran into LE 9 times in that 500+ miles and was saved 9 times by my V1. One of the guys working Federal LE in an unmarked car in the National Forest actually allowed me to pass and then kept hitting me with instant on for the next 25 miles (@45mph) until he finally gave up and staretd chasing someone else. Looks like we'll have a catered lunch at the half way point. Still working on the costs. Tracy is working on some amazing dinner plans with a Targa theme. Some places most have not seen. Roads are a hoot! |

rdane: A test run, eh? Nothing like doing it 2 or 3 times. Does LE stand for Limited Edition? Or what? Is "Instant On" a laser type? Valentine is my middle name but I think the V1 is not available in Canada, so, I got one called: "Fuzzbuster", which has paid for itself many times over. Hoping for some good weather on the 11th. The Porsche club meeting at Whistler this weekend had a great turnout but quite a bit of rain. Hmmmm. Get a clutch cable as a spare and don't pass a police cruiser while the V1 is playing the "Frantic Symphony"! Cheers

It really is an awesome drive Gunter, I suspect I'll do some variation of it a couple more times before we get snow and parts of the route get closed. Leaves are just beginning to turn color so the Sept run should be spectacular.
This trip I drove two new sections, that I had not been on, that really took my breath away. So I know I'll have fun again. LE are those nasty guys with Law Enforcement ![]() The speed limit through the 100 miles of National Forest road is 45mph. Funny enough any Porsche can take just about every corner of that road at 45mph comfortably, even the ones with signs saying 10mph. Not so comfortable for Chevy 4x4 Expeditions the LE guys drive. I suspect he got a real work out in that 25 miles ![]() The Mediterranean meal (fitting the real Targo Florio) Tracy is hosting for all of us after the drive sounds better everyday. We just need cars and drivers! |

Is Superman in the area? I know there's many more guys on here in Seattle and surrounding areas. Have they not heard about it? I'm REALLY looking foward to this event!

Hard to get Jim up to PIR, let alone out for a drive
![]() ![]() Ronin, Scooter, Peter, Randy, John, Schrup, Gunther, Pat and yourself with a few others have indicated some interest in the long version. (maybe dozen or so cars) Mark Wilson is leading a shorter version of the drive just Windy Ridge on St. Helens and back, leaving a bit later in the day and returning for dinner Sat. Haven't heard anyone going on that one either yet. No host dinner Friday night for all involved hopefully will give us a head count for Sat.'s drive. Friday and Saturday dinners will be the high points socially but the driving will give all something to talk about for good long while. Last edited by rdane; 08-22-2004 at 11:58 AM.. |

Count me in as long as Paul (aka parts wagon) Schrup comes.
I did a long stretch of FS road East on St Helens last week. I blew by a fed. vehicle going the other way and didn't thing twice about it. He and I both knew that by the time he got turned around and passed all the slow traffic behind me I'd be long gone!
