Help With My Manual Door Locks

Hi Everyone,

New Member!!! Had a quick question as to if anyone else has had any problems with their non-power door lock mechanisms not working...I have a 84 911 and the passenger side works perfect, the drivers side just took a crap...Can't even lock it with the key from the outside....Please help, I just redid both door panels, full leather and stereo and can't finish the job....TIA for any tips...Joe :-)

Just went thru that with mine .. check the rods (better said the plastic bushings). We can take a look over the weekend if you want to.

Are you saying your lock cylinder won't turn, or it turns and then binds, or turns & nothing happens???? Welcome to the board by the way. You'll find a bunch of good guys & info & help here.

Thnx for the responses...! The rod is like frozen; it won't slide to the left so that the door will do into the locked position....it is the weirdest thing because they worked before when i had the panels off and nothing has changed since then...?
Any ideas...Joe

Hi Joe,

My guess is something is pinning the rod and preventing it from moving. I am thinking this because you said you just redid the door panels and stereo (assuming speakers).

I am in Vegas this week (staying near the hotel) and have evenings free. If you want, I can take a look at it with you.

I've been through the doors on my 73 a couple times but I am not a full expert. Just offering plus it will keep me from gambling away too much money!

ok, i guess its time to be more specific...lol...! when i have the panel off and u can just see the gold square that normally is turned by the circular knob (ps, i have rs door panels) even turning it with a wrench doesnt not make the door lock/unlock...it seems like the mechanism within the door (away from the car end) is frozen....tried wd40 to unstick the mech. but it didnt work....hope that helps a little..

btw...jordi, sorry i missed hooking up with you, im crazy busy during the day....also, by fellow vegas traveler....this week is hell for me but i definetly appreciate the offer.....!!!!

Sorry vegas, but there's nothing for it but to get stuck in and remove the inside door panel to see what's going on in there. An onerous job, but someone's gotta do it, and I think that someone is you!
