Fan Housing
I have a 1988 3.2 Carrera and am thinking of replacing my fan and fan housing. Having looked at many of the pics posted, I noticed that many of the rebuilt engines have really nice looking fans and fan housings which look all spanking new and shiny. I don't seem to have any trouble finding a replacement 11-blade fan as they appear to be in stock in Pelican Parts and Performance Products. But I am having a hard time finding a new fan housing. Is there a later model substitute I can use ? Does anyone out there know where I can purchase a new fan housing for my car ?

Winky, you'll find most of the spanking new shiny ones are actually the old originals refurbished by their owners. You can polish up the magnesium fan and housing, paint it or powder coat it, I went with powdercoat for durability. Do a search (top right corner) for "fan", it would have to be one of the most debated subjects!
Good luck

The fan housing is ALMOST indestructible. You can crack or deform it by tightening down the retaining strap too much. If you do this they can be bot from salvage yards.
Otherwise just take it out and clean it up. The fan is much easier to break and can be bot as you've figured out. But if its not broke, just clean it up too. There must be a 1000 different colors posted on this forum

Pelican carries them, but they are not cheap!
Fan Housing, 911 (1984-89) H-106-102-07 93010610207 $505.50

Bead blast (not sandblast) yours, then powder coat it and you'll have a darn good looking setup.
Run a search on 'powder coating fan'.

Fans and housings are dealer parts and they ain't cheap. Don't replace unless absolutely necessary. You can make it look better than new with powder coating.

The new fan housings come Matte black and the new fans come in a clear coat, but they aren't polished, so the metal has a natural finish.
My fan and housing were both really bad on my '88. The housing was badly cracked and corroding from the inside out on the fins of the housing that connect the hub to the shroud. You may actually need to replace the housing and/or fan as they do go bad. Since Mg corrodes from the inside out usually causing the metal to swell and then crack like it has cancer. Can't really fix that, just wait for it to go bad.
