No 911 content: Can the chip from my VR6 motor be reprogrammed?

I just bought a VR6 motor from a 1999 GTi to install in my 914 and I read on this board that some people were in the business of reprogramming chips so I thought I'd ask this question here. The VR6 computer is expecting input from many non-engine related sensors so I was wondering if the chip could be reprogrammed to 'believe' that these sensor readings were all still within spec so that engine performance would not be affected and so that I don't get any error codes for sensors that are no longer connected.

You may want to try contacting one of the VW tuners that provide VR6 chips. Check out www.giacusa.com for starters. You could also check out the VR6 engine tech forum on vwvortex.com for info.

The chip canprobably be reprogrammed. Do you know what kind of chip it is? The manufacturer may be able to help. You may also want to post the question on VWVortex.com. They have a VR6 forum.

There are many tuners who perform these modifications. GIAC is concidered one of the best.

That's a pretty crazy swap, as a VR6 owner, I think you'll be pleased. Show us some pics when it's done.

There was an article about a year ago in Eurpoean Car with a guy who put a transverse 1.8T in a 914 with a big turbo kit. The 914 was a stripped down race car. Very cool and very fast!

Talk to "Steve W", he might know.

Send Rene Berube an email. He is the NA distributor for Upsolute

Been running an Upsolute chip in my Jetta TDI for over 100,000 miles and could not be happier and Rene is great to work with.

Does all VW products, Porsche, Volvo, Mercedes and BMW.

Thanks for the information, everyone. Concentric, the swap isn't as crazy as I first thought since I found out after buying the motor that Kennedy Engineering already makes an adapter and clutch package to adapt the VR6 to the 901 transmission.

Is it the 12v or the 24v? Go with REVO. Bud has it on his 03 GTI. Very high quailty and u can change programs with a touch of a button. Very nice setup. Have fun, gotta post pics once its finished.
