JoeA, those things can run 18-24 volts when they go real bad and they'll blow the ECU or draw way too much current from the injectors and blow out the injector driver internally.
Just a warning for others, that's all.

One of the critical items in the electrical system that can be blown in an instant with spikes above 18.0 Volts is the factory alarm module!

Agree Warren, but not as critical as a DME or Injector driver! Aaaarrrgghhhh!!!

You guys are giving me the shakes just thinking of a alternator going this far above its normal rated voltage! I have done a "smoke test" too often with my Brit vehicles and really like a nice stable voltage source!

Hehe, well, you are one lucky bugga that yours survived that long at 16v or so... really playing with fire there. All it takes is the Alt or VR to send a Vspike in the danger zone and you'd be looking at a depressing repair bill
![]() My alternator is totally screwed too (bearings are totally worn), but luckily it was under-charging/supplying under load. I cringe at the thought of it going the other way
