Fuel Distributor - swap '74 w/ '78
1974 911s with CIS 2.7
I have a question about swapping out a '74 (017) with a '78 (051) fuel distributor. I attached some pics, they are not the actual FD's, but you'll get the idea. I have transferred over the fittings from the '74 except for the small full line. When I received the '78's FD, its small fuel line was plugged with a banjo fitting. So, I guess I'd like to know if I can just leave it plugged off and I'll just cap off my fuel line, or do I need to find a fitting that will fit the new FD. I am not familiar with the kit that allows the new FDs to work on the '74, perhaps I need that. Thanks for any suggestions, Stephen ![]() ![]() |

I would talk to John at Special T auto. He seemed to know his CIS stuff and was pretty helpful.

Thanks John, I email them to see if they had some thoughts.
I did find the fuel diagrams for the '74. The large line is for the return fuel which I can trace back and the smaller fitting appears to be for the cold start valve. Since the fittings are not compatible, I could leave the plug on the new FD and there is an existing "T" in the return fuel line where I could bring fuel to the cold start valve. Does anyone know if this is doable? Does the cold start valve require major pressure? Does the FD play a role in limiting the amount of fuel that goes to the CSV? -Stephen |
