how to rebuild a 3.0 distributor

I just finished rebuilding, well really just opening up and freeing up a bunch of seized parts, my 3.0 distributor, and took some photos along the way. I hope to sometime get the time to put some words around it, but here is a link to a page with the photos, as they say a picture is worth a thousand words

I am going to try to move this page to my site soon, so if it is not there check www.addictionmotorsports.com

Any improvements? How did you know that the distributor wasn't working correctly? Thanks,

I knew it was not right for two reasons, I could not feel the advance in the rotor when I twisted it back and forth by hand, and when reving up the motor, I did not see any advance in the timing,

but mostly the motor was running very poorly to begin with.

Additionally, a faulty distributor could result to 'backfires.' Another one would be rough at idle and smooth past 1500 rpm. Lastly, remove the rotor: try pulling the shaft, and shaking it. A lot of play, then it is time for rebuild or a new one. (been there, done that).

I have a worn out spare. I'm going to tear into it now. Did you have yours re bushed?

no, I did nothing more than tear it apart, clean it up and put it back together.

maybe over the winter I will take another look at it
