Weber Fuel Pump and Filter Advice
Hey guys,
What fuel pump do you recommend for a Weber conversion with a return loop and the PMO pressure regulator/clamp? I am leaning to the Holley Red, but have read lots of complaints regarding noise. Just how loud is it? I am also in process of upgrading my fuel filtration. Currently all I have is a cheapo filter before each carb. What is the best filter to use before the carbs? I would also like to install a filter before the pump. Is there room to install a filter and a new pump under the front end near the steering rack? Any pictures of an aftermarket pump and filter install greatly appreciated.

the red pump will be fine for that application. the pump is a little noisy but mounted in the rear with the motor you will never hear it when running. you will notice it at idle but thats what you get for this type of pump. i am running a/n fittings on my webbers and have a a/n fuel filter also that has a removable element. your choice will be up to you on the filters since looks was what i was after and a clean install. why not just run the holley regulator?

Richard Parr told me to keep the stock pump as it was a lot higher quality -- is yours still in the car? He sells a press. regulator.

I'm with Randy on this one.
The recommended Racor has an internal filter and rated at marine 100psi. I'm not sure of the internal filter micron size or if there is a micron size option? I use the Racor with the spin on filter, although it's not recommended due to the marine low psi design. It's rated at about 10psi, although I've had it at 60psi without leaking when installing for the first time. It has a water trap and an optional water alarm. I use the 2 micron filter. Routine good filters are 10 microns.. some filter designs are 20-30 microns, which is to dirty for carbs imo. I don't think a filter before the pump is a good design for rotary cell pumps. I mentioned marine 'cause it's a stricter compliance factor.

The stock pump is 28 years old and rather noisy. It works fine, although occasionaly the pitch of the noise will change and I will see a change in fuel pressure. I am also having trouble maintaining constant psi using the clamp on the return line. I end up adjusting the clamp every few days. I am replacing the pump as a preventive measure. Don't want to get stranded somewhere.
Does the holley red have to be mounted in the engine compartment or can it be mounted near the tank in the stock location?
