erratic idle 88 carerra

This only happens when I first start the car and then goes away once i get moving. The rpm's go from 800 to 1200 then settle at 800. I've recently replaced the idle valve. coulf warm weather be a cause?

I think this 'surge' is common to a few guys here.

Try a search.

Mine did it when I first got her, but since new plugs cap, rotor and
Steve W chip, it doesn't do it anymore.

I don't think those things fixed it though. I bought my car in November last year. Therefore when the weather gets cold again, who knows, the surging idle when the engine is cold may return?

ps. I did also get the idle and CO adjusted. I feel as though these two things may have been the fix. Sorry I can't be of more specific help.

Might try testing (ohm's test) your head temperature sensor...a faulty one can certainly create an eratic idle problem and is a fairly common "problem area" on these cars.
