993 Seats in an SC

I know this has been done, I have seen photos. When I attempted to do it myself however, I found that the bottom of the 993 seat is not flat as is the SC seat because of the motor mechanishm . (See photo for gold thing) Those of you who have done it, how did you do so? Do you have to fab some brackets or could I just use some washers and longer bolts to overcome the problem?

I had this same issue with some seats in an older Celica. I used washers and some longer hex nut bolts. I am not sure of the safety aspects of doing this. Are you able to wire in the motors?

But remember, the back of the seat will be taller than the front if you don't also do the front and you will be closer to the roof. More of a concern for taller folk...

Yes I have wired in the motors. It's a prerequisite since I have to move the seat to get to the bolt holes. I plan on putting something on both front and back ends rather than let it sit on that gold thing.

OK, for anyone searching, here's how it turned out...

Because of the motor thing shown in the first photo, you need to shim it up in the four corners to get the seat to fit flat.

1. I used some 1/8" (I guess) aluminum stock I bought at Home Depot and cut 4 pieces for each seat.



2. For bolting it in, I tried using the rear most hole. I guess that's how it's bolted in the 993? For the SC, bolt in the front hole (of the rear holes). (ie. NOT the worn hole in this photo) . I also purchased longer bolts from Lowe's in Grade 8 hardware. A tip: you will need a thin 10 mm socket to bolt these in; I used a 1/4" drive socket.



3. To wire it up, I chopped off the factory wiring harness, and joined the wires together. I was able to ground the seats on either side of the heater controls. There is a threaded hole there - why? (Maybe for the aux blower - mine doesn't have one...)

4. The red wire, I connected directly to the battery with a 20 amp fuse. To get into the cockpit, I ran 12 gauge wire through the hole above the passenger side wooden floorboard. I wired it to the passenger seat and ran it around the tunnel (forward of the shifter) to the driver's seat.

Would I do it all again? I don't know. I like the way they look/feel but the motors make it really heavy. Lots heavier than the factory seats that came out. I simply wanted some new leather and this was cheaper and easier than rebuilding my bolsters and recovering my old ratty seats - I think. I wanted some nice Sparco Milanos, but that was way more expensive. I'm sure the bolsters are going to wear on these, but it should hold up for a few more years. As far as the weight, it should be a few years before I'm concerned with that on the track.
