feedback request: 2.0S to 3.0 engine transplant???
feedback greatly appreciated from those who have replaced a 2.0S with 3.0 in a early 65-73 911. i am looking for this specific combo but would also like to hear from those who have replaced a 2.2S or 2.4S with a 3.0.
i might have the chance to purchase a 68 2.0S engine for my car. my heart says stick with that whole "period correct" ordeal but my head says best bang for the buck is the 3.0. 3.6 not within my budget. thanks in advance! |
I have a 3.2 in a 1970, love it, 3.0 is a good bang for the buck, and easier I would think based on the 3.0 I just put in the race car.
I live in Morgan Hill if you wanted to arrange to come by and see the two installs. shoot me an email. as for period correct, bah humbug, 911s were meant for driving not some form of punctuation. Jim |
Tyson's new/old car has a 3.2. I don't know what year it is, but it's definitely a pre '74, and not a SWB 911. Give him a call at TRE and see what he says. SmileWavy

In the last few days I just finished upgrading my SWB with a motor that I picked up from the Pelican used and parts forum. It was advertised as a 2.7 RS spec motor that was built by a well known engine builder. Most of the time was spent detailing. At the same time I found a 1983 SC and installed the front suspension completly and tried to ask around if anybody could tell me how to modify the rear bannana arm to adapt to the 3" caliper and vented rotors. I spent sometime and machining and the SC vented rear brakes with handbrake are a great upgrade. I also installed Elephant racing poly bronze bushings and adjustable spring plates, the master cylinder and duel brake lines, and a hollow front sway bar also from Elephant racing and a carrera coller also from Elephant racing. I am finishing up with a roll bar from TRE and a recaro seat so that if I wreck because this car is now so increadibley fast I will be better off than the stock lap belts. The 2.7 is a derect bolt in and is FAST.(SCARY FAST)http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1095231360.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1095231466.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1095231505.jpg

thanks guys. i do appreciate the feedback.
jim - i like your perspective on the non-period correct approach. dsfnctn - that is a great looking car with some very cool mods. many of the cars that i have a lot of respect for have 3.0s and 3.2s. may have to re-address my thinking. don't be surprised if you get some emails from me. thanks. |
I put a 3.0 in my ST project. The swap was easy. runs great with the webers. I will have more driving impressions after this weekend. I am off to the track with the other car and tomorrow to DMV to finalize paperwork for the ST. road legal is a good thing for test drives.
