easy "A" arm bushing removal

Easy method of removing old vulcanized bushings from "A" arms to replace with poly/graphite bushings. Pictures are shadowy but used come along between two heavy objects I was told that the usual method was to cut away at the rubber a little at a time but this works great in about 10 minutes.

Rears are easy too. Heat the inside until they sizzle. twist off. Takes about 2 min each side with the OA torch.

Well, I, er, uh....no.

Here is another method that requires a little less hardware.

Heat the metal for a couple minutes to soften the rubber. The mounts then twist off easily. No drama.

Brute force methods without heat are very likely to tear or otherwise damage the metal of the mounts. A little heat makes all the difference.

WTF? That reminds me of the poor soul who couldn't get his rear t-bars out. He had comealongs hooked up to trucks and phone poles wiht the car inbetween , I think He was actually going to buy a roller and move his parts over, it was such a hassle.

You're not, by chance, the same guy, are you?

Actually, I think I'd like Billy's shop setup. I need to get a little ROOM around me. I'm like the guy that has a lift, but has too many cars, so there's already a car on the lift and he's on the ground crawling under another parked below.

I'd love to get the hell out of the Getto by the Sea and be up in Atascadero except in August when it's 150 degrees.

screwed up a arm bushing removal

Gosh, I fell terrible now for doing it that way. I was told that it was a going to be a major ordeal of sawing, cutting and burning rubber so I just thought this would be a slick way with no stinky fumes.Next time I'll ask the board for the advice before hand. Some of those remarks made me feel like I just got bent over in the shower to pick up the soap.

Billy, we're just having a little fun with you

But seriously, I've done this more than a few times. I learned the hard way what brute force methods can do to the mounts.

You've got yours done, so comments from us armchair QBs aren't helping you. But others will read this and it will be helpful to them to learn the tried and proven techniques.

- You owe us all a beer!

Seriously -- It worked didn't it? Check for distortion in the A-arms, then reinstall.
