Super quick question, PLEASE READ!!!
Will a replica turbo tail, the teatray style fit on a 930 decklid?
|
I don't know! :(
|
bump
Anyone?? |
Are you saying will an entire tail, fiberglass base fit on a factory decklid then sure why not.
If you are asking will aftermarket rubber only fit a factory base, then the answer is yes it should. I mean afterall, the replica is a reproduction of a factory piece is it not? Scott |
BeauBlues,
No, I don't believe so. As stomachmonkey mentioned, I think the tea tray is all one piece? Are you talking about one of these… http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1095367212.jpg Now look at how low the 930 spoiler comes on the deck lid. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1095367240.jpg SmileWavy BTW... I am in the market for a 930 deck lid if you consider selling it. |
Im talking about the 930 tail, but the replica, not the all fiberglass one. Im concerned because I was told from the person i bought it from that the replica tail was made slightly different than the original so it would fit really easy on a stock 911 deck lid.

A 911 deck lid and a 930 deck lid are the same. As far as I know.
|
I have a factory turbo (930) tail on my Carrera 911 decklid.
I was under the impression that the tea tray tail was this tail as shown in the second, white flatnose pic. |

This is what the bottom looks like. Now I dont have a 930 lid to try this out on. Just hope this helps clear things up. |
the 930 lid has a bigger opening, and i was told that the factory tail mounts slightly different than the replica tail.
|
Who made the replica tail?
Anything is possible.... |
not sure, picked it up the german auto fest for $85.
|
Does anyone have knowledge of these tails for this situation??
|
OK, I'm must be missing something here.
You have the tail? I assume that you have a 911, 84 Targa. As mentioned earlier the 911 and 930 decklids are interchangeable. Just stick the base on the car, you'll know right away whether it fits or not. If it fits your car it will fit a 930. I seriously doubt anyone would go through the trouble to manufacture a replica of something that does not work as an alternative relacement to the factory original, maybe not as well but works never the less. After all that's the idea behind creating a replica. Scott |
Let me be slightly more descriptive. The OEM tail, I believe, has mounting hardware, unlike the replica tail which doesnt. The replica tail was designed to mount without special mounts. Now I'm not 100% sure on everything that I am saying is true, but this is what I was told from the guy I bought it from. So here is the ultimate plan. I want to mount my "replica" 930 style tail onto a "OEM" 930 lid. The purpose is that I dont want to put it on the original lid that I have because I want the extra room that a 930 lid gives you, ie space for an intercooler. I dont have a 930 lid "yet", I dont want to buy one unless I know my "replica" tail will mount flawlessly onto it.

I installed a Porche factory tail on my '84 Targa. I no longer own it, but I know it did not have the raised section (obviously to fit in the stock grill recess) showing in your photo. I laid masking tape on the deck lid to pencil mark where I would drill mounting holes. Never in my life had I rechecked my work so many times before center punching.

It's an aftermarket fiberglass part and the general rule is aftermarket fiberglass parts require "fitting" or massaging for a perfect fit. You have the part in your hands, you need to find a 930 lid and give it a try. No one is in a better position to answer the question other than yourself. The best that anyone can say is, it's a replica of a factory piece so it should fit. Might need a bit of work, might not. You need to get a decklid and try it. Good Luck, Scott |
Ok. It will take time to figure all this. Thanks for the input.
