embarrassing spare tire question

Still trying to learn about my 1979 930...

If my car still has it, where would the compressor be kept? If the compressor is missing, are they still available, or is the another option?

Thanks!

The compressor should be in a smallish black box. Location,, if not in the trunk it is probably missing I don't know if there was a specific place that they strapped them to.
I tried to get an orginal one by bidding on ebay after being the consistant looser, I bought one at Kmart for 30 bucks. Original new ones are expensive. I think new they are 200+ dollars?

It's usually just kept in the front trunk (little black self-contained case). The original "Porsche" ones are a bit hard to come by and expensive. They usually pop up on eBay every once in a while though. Most folks just purchase an aftermarket unit, or simply ditch the spare and compressor in favor of a can of fix-o-flat/cell-phone/AAA card.

funny that the original one, at least for some model years...and the aftermarket one both are made by Intermatics...look the same too.

Is it possible to find an aftermarket compressor that will fit in my oversized cigarette lighter socket?

What I wonder is...what if I actually changed a rear tire? Where the hell am I gonna put that fat a$$ rear wheel/tire? Will I be able to get it thru the door and onto the folded back seat with the roof on? Sounds like a big dirty mess. Then I'll need to carry a sheet and, and...
Maybe I'll use fix a flat too and tell the tire repair dude to watch the hell out.

The aftermarket ones will work with the oversized cig lighter you just have to find the "sweet spot" and then hold it there. Ask me how I know.

My tool kit came with a large plastic bag in it. I asked what it was for and was told it was to put a flat tire in so you don't mess up your car. If the tire is flat, should fit in the back seat with the front seet pulled ALL the way forward.

And remember, never put the spare on the back. Put a front wheel on the back and the spare on the front.
