"UPDATE" About to pick up car from body shop, what should I look for?
Well after a second (do it right) trip to the body shop, I picked her up just 20 minutes ago.
I felt rushed out the door, but! The car did look great, they re did the fender arch (it has a weird angle after 1st time) They placed a new rocker panel protector (the sticker on the fender) the first one was not on streight They painted the whole underneath of the fender (the first time only a spot was painted) however they did get some over spray on the the oil lines and they pretty much painted the arms that connect to the torsion bars (forget the name) They did polish and wax the whole car (I know I know, pictures are coming) So all and all I give them about a 6-7 out of 10, not really inpressed being that they had to do it 2 times to get it right and made me feel like a pest for taking it the second time. The workmanship the second time around was about a 8-9, if they would just have used some masking tape over some parts it would have been a 10 DETAILS DETAILS! Would I take my car to them agian or reffer anyone? NO (pictures will be added tomorrow)

You know what to look for check the gaps and paint for any variances. Make sure to take a look at the work from several prespectives.

I second the lighting. It can make a repair stick out like a sore thumb, especially on red cars. I know yours is not red, but the concept still applies.

Make sure that all lights, turn signals and anything electrical in the area they corrected not only work but work right. Picked up my Targa and just happy to have it after 5.5 months. Found out later that the mirror control on the door, turn signals and brake lights did not work.
Spent days figuring out the problems after paying the idiots to mess it up. Paint looked descent but their assy work was terrible. Joe

I heard that using a flourescent light will show the most. I would also look for overspray in places you wouldnt think to look.

Well the car has to stay one more day for alignment, so tomorrow I am taking a bottle of water to run over the body panel that was worked on and a flourecent light. Removing the wheel and looking underneath the fender. Finally checking all electrical works, open and close all doors and check for even gaps. Finally drive it around make sure it heads north when I want to go north.
Thank you all for the tips fellas!

If I remember correctly the car is non metallic black. In that case matching the color is a no brainer, it has to match if its black. Generally, I would say look at the car in relatively low light or flourescent light to see any orange peel or overspray. To me low light is also easier when color matching is an issue. In my opinion, you always want the car dry when looking at fresh paint work. Shady body shops give your car back wet. Look for light coverage at the wheel well lip as it folds underneath the fender.
Looks like you chose a good shop from your earlier posts so I would not be too worried. Let us know how things work out. |

Make sure ALL bits of trim are back where they belong. And little things like the jack, toolkit, air compressor - ask me I know.
You already mentioned electricals - check the not so obvious stuff like parking lights.

you should check to make certain that the body shop performed the work that you requested.
