Starter Runs Continuously when There is Power to the Battery
 

Okay, I need a little help here. I pullr the engine out of my car and I almost have the car runnig today. I attempted to document where all the wiring connects to, but I must have missed something. I went to plug in my car charger to start charging the battery after hooking up all the electrical and the starter motor began to spin. It did not make to engine turn over it just spun. There is obviosly some sort of misconnect that maybe from the solenoid to battery connection. I connected the battery wire to one of the 8mm studs and the wire that goes to the alternator to the other 8mm stud believing both are hot. Did I mis something here?

Please help because I want to get this bad boy running this weekend.

Could it be an ignition switch problem?

Hmmm... there is some sort of clutch mechanism inside the solenoid; also a retractor - maybe a ratchet and pawl. I bet it is bad and not retracting. Boisch has a booklet on how these things a re made. Might be a diagram at their web site also.

I think only one of the 8mm studs is hot all the time. The other one is hot when the starter is engaged.

My car's starter used to sporadically stay engaged after I started the car. I had the starter tested and swapped out ignition but it would still do it! Finally, I discovered that the smaller of the two wires, connecting the solenoid; had wore though the insulation and was grounding out. Problem solved.
