New member intro

Hi everybody!

I'm brand new to this board so I figured I should introduce myself to all of you.

I am the very proud soon-to-be owner (just waiting for the funds to clear) of a beautiful 1984 Carrera Cabriolet. I can think of nothing else but the car these days.:D I am a 40 year old man who's been wanting a Porsche of my own ever since the day my dad showed up at my grade school in 1971 with a brand new 911 and promptly tossed my sister and me in that little back seat area. I've been hooked ever since. Twice a year my dad would take me over to Laguna Seca and we'd park ourselves down at the bottom of that famous corkscrew and watch those beautiful 934's and, later, the awesome 935's go roaring past. Of course, to me there was no other car worthy of a Porsche on the track. The BMW's that Peter Gregg drove used to drive me insane. I hated those things! Kind of ironic that my wife and I just bought her a 525i, I suppose.

I've included a picture of the car. It was built with the wing originally but the last owner's wife didn't like it so he took it off. I've got the car's wing in my garage and it's going back on the day I pick up the car.

And, yes, I'm joining the PCA asap.

:) :)

Welcome to the board!!

Life is good when you can have a cab with or without a tail whenever the mood suits you.

How long until we see a pic of your car @ Laguna Seca?

450knotOffice 09-17-2004 07:15 PM

Do they ever open that track to enthusiasts like us?

masraum 09-17-2004 10:10 PM

I'm guessing you fly...

Nice car, I had an '88 black targa. You've got a great car there. You are in the best place you could be with a 911. There are tracks all up and down the west coast, and by going to "DE's" high speed driver's education events you get to drive on them flat out in your 911 (you'll need a roll bar).

450knotOffice 09-17-2004 10:24 PM

Yea...flying's one of my other passions.:D ;)

Thanks about the car. Once I've got the wing back on and the car detailed properly, I'll take some pics and post a good one here.

Forgive my ignorance, but what is "DE"? The high speed driver's education events sound intriguing.

Scott,

Looks like you had a good vacation, we talked on the phone about my 84 Targa.

Lots of groups run at Laguna.

If you're in a hurry, there's a track day this Wednesday at Willow Springs -- in Rosamond, out near Edwards Air Force base. A bunch of us will be driving there.

Michael,

Yea I had a great vacation when you consider that I finally joined the Porsche "club". :D

I spoke with and met so many people while I was looking for a car that my memory is fading slightly. Did we take your Carrera out for a test drive on the 5 toward San Clemente and is your car a black 84 Targa?

Jack,

Sounds interesting. Depending on when I get my hands on this car and what my schedule looks like, I may try to get out there, if not just to meet a bunch of Porsche fanatics like myself.:p

Scott,

We never meet, as I was the one that was out of town until Friday. Where did you find this car? I hope you had a got a PPI done on it?

Congrats, Scott! Nice ride. Post some better pics when you get them.

Nice color, you will enjoy it. My 88 CAB has been the most dependable Porsche I’ve ever owned. It’s a blast on the track. Roll bar will be required though.

masraum 09-18-2004 09:27 AM

Sorry, DE is our shorthand for high speed Driver's Education. It's a day at the track with instructors and driving and even though in my 4 years of ownership I never got to one, I know it was the most fun you can have with your pants on.
